Keeper in Denmark gets sacked for homophobia
The Danish topleague club FC Midtjylland (FCM) sacked their keeper Arek Onyszko today. The club says so in a pressrelease. The press relase comes after homophobic remarks in a new book from the keeper called "Fucking Polish". In the book the keeper states that
I hate gays. I reallly do. I think it is fucking disgusting. It is disgusting to hear them talk. Like they are girls. I can not not sit down with someone who is gay. To se them kiss each other. It is so disgusting. I've never met a gay in a football team. It is not possible.
In the book Arek Onyszko also tells on how he admires Hells Angells and how he refuses to talk to female sportsjournalists.
Only 3 moths ago, Arek Onyszko was sacked by his former club Odense Boldklub after he was convicted for beating up his girlfriend.
FC Midtjylland writes in their press release:
We think we did the right thing, when we offered him a second chance this summer. Everybody should get a second chance after they have been punished. But now we feel he has abused our trust. The book is a long line of opinions which are incompatible with being a part of FC Midtjylland

FARE Action Week
Action speaks louder than words
The FARE Action Week unites supporters, clubs and those targeted by racism across the continent in a concerted effort to make discrimination a thing of the past. The Action Week of the Football Against Racism in Europe network aims to boost public awareness of the problems of racism and exclusion and to create a united front in dealing with this malign influence on Europe‘s number one sport. The idea behind the FARE Action Week is that a wide range of initiatives and activities address local problems within their club or community, while also joining groups across the continent to present a unified stand against racism in the game.
What started as a minor campaign in nine countries in 2001 has now become the largest series of anti-racism activities in sport ever staged. The 2007 Action Week saw a record number of more than 700 events in 37 countries in and around football grounds all over Europe. Europe‘s top stars are lending support to the campaign. All 32 teams of the UEFA Champions League participated in the “Unite Against Racism” campaign, reaching more than 600,000 fans directly at the matches and millions more via live broadcast on television. The number of participating professional leagues has increased to 14. Also the symbolic activities organised by national FAs and individual clubs are reaching out to more people each year.
Each year the FARE network offers financial support for a range of grass-roots activities to address local problems in football clubs at the community level. In 2007 some 190 groups including fan clubs, ethnic minority organisations, football clubs and a variety of NGOs from all over Europe submitted creative proposals. With the backing of UEFA the FARE network has offered small grants to over 100 grassroots initiatives and provides campaign materials for free. Many more fan groups are organising themselves to challenge racism and the far-right. FARE‘s long-term focus on the situation in Eastern and Central Europe has led to an increasing numbers of applications in the Balkans, the former Soviet republics and the new EU members such as Poland, Hungary or Romania.
Ignoring racism, is accepting racism – take your stand and join the FARE Action Week!
Next Action Week will be in October 2008!

Captains to lead message of equality at EURO 2008 semi-finals
The activities of the Unite Against Racism campaign in Austria and Switzerland take centre stage this week as the team captains of the UEFA Euro 2008 semi-finalists will deliver a message against racism and for diversity directly from the pitch.
Michael Ballack of Germany and Recber Rüstü of Turkey as well as Iker Casillas of Spain and Sergei Semak of Russia will speak to fans through the stadium loudspeaker systems in Basel and Vienna during their teams line-up after the national anthems. The teams will also be flanked by two huge Unite Against Racism flags.
Before kick-off all, fans are invited to join an anti-racism choreography. All of the 40,000 spectators in Basel and the 50,000 spectators in Vienna will find a bib with the message ‘No to Racism’ on their seat. Fans will be encouraged to lift their yellow, green, blue and red bibs in unison.
UEFA President Michel Platini welcomed the activities, "The Unite Against Racism campaign serves to demonstrate our respect for diversity. We're determined to ensure that major footballing events like the Euro are played in an environment of harmony and respect.”
The initiative is part of a series of messages that will involve pitch side boards that have made such an impact throughout the tournament, the wearing of captains armbands and the screening of the anti-racism video spot at each match that have become an intrinsic part of this years campaign.
Piara Powar, from UK FARE member Kick It Out, said, “The ‘Unite Against Racism’ campaign has captured fans imagination’s through a highly visible presence inside and outside stadiums.
“The semi-final captain’s will reinforce just how important it is to tackle discrimination in all its forms. This years activities have marked a watershed in the way this social message has been communicated.”

Footballs biggest campaign to rid the game of racism and related discriminations kicks off in one weeks time.
For the eighth successive season, the Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) network is co‑ordinating action against racism and discrimination in and around football stadiums across Europe. Between 17 and 30 October 2007 large sections of the European football family in 38 countries will stand united against racism and discrimination.
As is now customary during October, the 8th FARE Action Week will feature activities by fan groups, football clubs, national associations, community and migrant organisations, anti‑discrimination initiatives and schools. With the support of UEFA, FARE is providing financial assistance for 120 local activities that will take place in the context of this extended week of action, such as the production of campaigning materials and the organisation of anti-racism matches or special fan choreographies.

FARE Media Information
European Football get ready for Action Week against Racism
(Vienna / London, 11 October 2006) The biggest series of single anti-racism activities in football will come through the pan-European FARE Action Week. In just one week on 17 / 18 October the UEFA Champions League will kick-off the Action Week against racism and discrimination of the network Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE).
More than a thousand activities in 37 European countries will take place from 17 till 30 October, as part of the 7th FARE Action Week. European football will take a symbolic stand against racism and discrimination through activities designed to raise awareness of the issue, and underline football's determination to stamp it out.
Fans and Ethnic Minorities get involved Following a Call for Action 184 groups have sent their creative ideas and submitted written proposals for action. In total the FARE network is able to support the vast majority of these groups with small scale grants. In total an amount of more than 50.000 ¤ will be used for grassroots actions.
The range of activities has increased this year with new groups from Eastern and Central Europe, including the former Soviet Union and the Balkans, getting involved with initiatives led by campaigners, fans, clubs, national associations, ethnic minorities, youth groups and schools. For the first time also campaigners in Israel join the Action Week in order to combat racism against the Israel's Arab ethnic minority and immigrant players.
This year a greater engagement with minority groups such as the Roma in parts of Eastern Europe will be an encouraging feature of the activities. Fan participation will also increase with fan groups planning and organising activities felt to be most receptive to fellow fans in challenging racism. Furthermore actions against homophobia in the game will be launched.
Piara Powar, the director of FARE's UK partner Kick It Out, said:
"As a unique coming together of the football family - from fan groups, migrants and ethnic minorities, to the biggest clubs in the game - the FARE Action Week is a statement as to the type of sport we all want to be involved with. The importance of an inclusive and discrimination-free game that actively reaches out to all communities is our goal. With the support of UEFA and the whole European football family we know these ends are achievable."
German football league joins anti-racism campaign Following a successful World Cup 2006 all the key players in German football will get for the first time behind the FARE Action Week, involving not only all professional sides, but also more than a million fans in stadiums across the country, who will raise a red card against racism. This initiative by the German football league DFL together with the DFB and the FARE partner Dem Ball egal is set to be the biggest anti-racist cross club choreography in football so far.
In England and Wales, all 92 professional football clubs take part in a concerted effort to kick racism out of football, alongside about 700 community and club events.

Anti-racism network sees positive start to World Cup With nearly half of the 64 World Cup matches played, the Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) network has reported a positive start to the tournament.
With few exceptions football fans from all over the world have come together in a peaceful ad celebratory atmosphere in the city centres and stadiums. However campaigners have witnessed some xenophobic behaviour by a minority of fans. The majority of fans did not join these xenophobic actions and made partly an active stand against this kind of behaviour.
As part of FARE's work at the World Cup campaigners are filing reports about racist incidences to FIFA, who have intensified their efforts to prevent discriminatory behaviour.
Football Unites programme For the first time at the World Cup, the Organising Committee is financially backing preventive anti-racism work. The FARE network cooperates closely with the fan embassies (organised by the coordination office of German fan projects) and FIFA. Two mobile football pitches are touring the host cities. Streetkick tournaments where fans and ethnic minorities come together took already place in Berlin, Hamburg, Gelsenkirchen, Stuttgart, Cologne and Leipzig. Also events in collaboration with the fan projects in Dortmund and Hanover were organised. More than 10.000 of fanzines with the statements against racism of the World Cup team captains have been distributed. Futhermore the FARE network conduct a monitoring at selected matches.
Far-right acts at Italy - Ghana During the national anthem at the match Italy vs. Ghana in Hanover dozens of supporters in the Italian sector raised their right arm to show the fascist greeting.
The fan ambassador of Ghana, Bella B. Bitugu, reported to FARE that a man in an Italian shirt in the Ghanaian sector has been forced by surrounding supporters to stop the discriminatory gesture. During the match an Italian fan waved with an inflatable banana whenever the Black Stars committed a foul or were in ball possession. On their way to the Hanover stadium FARE observers discovered a „Ultras Italia“ Graffiti featuring a big Swastika.
Germany versus Poland The confrontations before and after Germany vs. Poland in Dortmund had no explicit right-extremist background. Nevertheless, there were far-right fans among those who went on riot. According to a report by Reuters Germany some fans shouted „Sieg Heil“. Also the local newspaper Dortmunder Rundschau quotes a volunteer, who identified several neo-Nazis among the group who attacked Poland supporters before kick-off. The Ruhr Nachrichten have reported about 30 Hooligans who „chanted their far-right polish slogans“. Ahead the Ecuador and Germany matches FARE spotted Polish supporters in the city centres wearing scarfs featuring celtic crosses and the scull of the Waffen-SS, which is forbidden to display according German law.
Xenophobic Merchandising After the match France – Switzerland anti-Turkish t-shirts and scarfs have been sold at a stand outside the Stuttgart stadium. A scarf carried the xenophobic expression "Bye bye Turkey - Turkish man stays at home" ("Tschüss Türkei – Türkisch Mann bleibt zu Hause"). The scarf uses also a stereotyping image of a Muslim: an angry looking old man with a white long beard. Nevertheless, fears that Turkish migrants living in Germany would clash with Swiss fans following the violent events in the qualifying stage did not become true.
„White Power“ symbol in the Serbian sector In Leipzig when the Netherlands played Serbia-Montenegro a banner with a celtic cross has been displayed by Serbian fans. The celtic cross is a popular racist symbol in the far right „White Power“ movement. At the EURO 2004 the football association of Croatia has been fined by UEFA for the display of two celtic cross banners in the Croat sector.
With the start of the World Cup FARE has established a racism reporting line for fans. Incidences can be reported via the phone number ++49 (0)151 520 78186 or via e-mail footballunites@gmail.com or the web-site www.FAREnet.org.

Euro MP's join call for action to tackle racism
Members of the European Parliament, campaigners and representatives of European football will be joined by the President of the European Parliament, Josep Borrell, tomorrow (14th March) in Strasbourg as a formal resolution on racism in the game is adopted.
The one page document has received more signatures than any other previous written resolution of the parliament with 420 MEP’s joining the call for action.
NGO’s and fan groups from the Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) network have been lobbying MEP’s across the continent over the past three months stressing the urgency of the problem.
The resolution calls on all stakeholders in the game to do more to fight racism and asks for tougher sanctions for racial abuse on and off the pitch. UEFA is urged to introduce sporting sanctions, such as excluding clubs from competitions.
The five MEP's behind the Declaration are Emine Bozkurt (European Socialists Party/Netherlands), Chris Heaton-Harris (European People’s Party/ UK), Cem Özdemir (Greens/ Germany), Alexander Nuno Alvaro (Liberals and Democrats/ Germany) Claude Moraes (European Socialists/ UK).
The launch at the European Parliament in Strasbourg will be attended by former player Paul Elliott on behalf of the FARE network and William Gaillard the Director of Communications and Public Affairs at UEFA.
FARE spokesman Piara Powar, today said,
“Momentum to tackle the highly visible problems of racism has been growing for some time. In recent weeks we have seen the Pope declare his disgust at events in Italy and a United Nations human rights special investigator raise concerns at the levels of racism in the game.
“Our hope would be that the resolution could play a significant role in encouraging and endorsing action at all levels of Europe, from football administrators to national governments.”
Former Chelsea, Celtic and Bari player, Paul Elliott MBE, welcomed the Resolution,
“As a player I faced racial abuse on the pitch in a number of different European countries. This is why I am passionate about ensuring that the next generation of players – across the continent and world – do not have to endure the same abuse I did.
“This resolution can help us move forward in tackling racism in the game, making football a welcoming place, wherever we chose to play or watch it.”

European football looks to Unite Against Racism
Stars of Spanish football will join former players, leading administrators from across European football and campaigners at a major gathering to look at racism in Barcelona this Wednesday (1st February).
The 2nd UEFA-led ‘Unite Against Racism’ conference will look at the problems of racism in Europe, highlight examples of good work and provide an opportunity for governing bodies to work with campaigners and fan organisations.
Racism in Southern, Central and Eastern Europe will be a focus with the issue of Homophobia discussed for the first time at a major international football conference.
Barcelona President, Joan Laporta will open the conference in the opening plenary and players from FC Barcelona will join a panel at the close of the conference to share their views and experiences of racism.
Clubs including AC Milan, FC Bayern Munich, Ajax, Dynamo Kiev and Paris Saint Germain will join other leading European clubs, National Associations, Player Unions and League representatives at the conference. Former Brazilian World Cup winner, Leonardo, UEFA referee, Kim Milton Nielsen, Spanish Sports Minister, Jaime Lissavetsky and former Ghana international, Anthony Baffoe will also attend the conference.
The one- day conference will be chaired by William Gaillard, UEFA's communications and public affairs director, and Piara Powar, Kick It Out director and a leading member of the FARE network.
Daniela Conti, from Italian sport for all association, UISP, and a spokesperson for the FARE Network said,
“By bringing together delegates from all of UEFA’s member associations we hope that this conference will be the catalyst for much more work to challenge racism.
“In all countries , including mine, more can be done. The FARE network believes that through working in partnership we can use the conference to bridge the gaps that exist in understanding and put a greater priority on football’s fight against racism.”

European parliament to back drive against racism as Italy takes new steps
Members of the European Parliament will add their voice to the drive to tackle racism tomorrow (30th November) as problems in European football hit the headlines again.
MEP’s will launch a Declaration in Brussels commending the work of the Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) network and calling for action by FA’s, Leagues and Clubs across the continent. The Declaration will achieve the rare status of a motion if a majority of the 732 MEP’s in the parliament give their backing.
The launch will come as the Italian FA announced yesterday that all midweek Italian cup fixtures along with next week's league games, at all levels down to amateur football, would be delayed by 5 minutes with the players taking to the field holding banners declaring 'No to Racism'.
The decision was sparked by Messina's Ivory Coast defender Zoro, who picked up the ball in the 66th minute and headed off the field in protest at monkey chanting from visiting Inter Milan fans in a Serie A match on Sunday.
As part of events in the parliament the FARE Network will be hosting a public ‘Hearing’ on the issue later in the day to present the development of the FARE network over the last five years and identify the challenges and priorities for future action.
The Hearing will feature speakers including former Chelsea, Bari and Celtic defender, Paul Elliott, and former FC Schalke 04 midfielder, Yves Eigenrauch. They will be joined by leading European Politicians and prominent campaigners against racism from across the continent.
Piara Powar, Director of UK campaigners Kick It Out, and prominent members of the FARE network commented,
“In the 5 years the FARE network has been campaigning against racism and discrimination in football good progress can be reported, but as events at the Messina v Inter game in Italy this weekend highlighted – we still have a lot of work ahead of us.
“There are no easy solutions to tackling racism within Europe but we are hopeful the declaration can be a significant step in moving forward the issue and gaining political support for campaigners across Europe”.

FARE aktions uge 13-25 oktober
Against Racism in Europe) stod bag.

FARE aktions uge 13-25 oktober
Less than one week to go, one goal… kicking racism out of the game! (Vienna / London, 7 October 2005) The largest series of anti- racism activities staged in sport across Europe will take place in less than one week. Between 13 and 25 October 2005 the European football family will stand united against racism and discrimination for the sixth successive season. The Football Against Racism in Europe (FARE) network is co‑ordinating activities that will feature activities by fan groups, football clubs, national associations, community and migrant organisations, anti‑discrimination initiatives and schools. While last season anti-racism events were staged in 33 European countries, this year the number will rise to 35 countries. FARE is also providing financial assistance to grassroots organisations across the continent to help stage anti- racism activities taking place during the Action Week, such as the production of campaigning materials, organisation of anti-racism matches, special fan choreographies and anti-racism themed football tournaments to engage minority communities. All Champions during the FARE Action Week As part of UEFA’s “Unite Against Racism” campaign, European football's governing body will use their premier club competition, the UEFA Champions League, to make their stand against racism during the FARE Action Week. At all 16 UEFA Champions League matches played on 18 and 19 October (matchday 3) Europe’s biggest stars will be supporting the message against racism. Each team will be accompanied onto the pitch by children wearing Unite Against Racism T-shirts, and tannoy announcements will be made before each game. Around 500,000 fans will directly witness events in the stadiums, whilst many millions more will see it via live TV coverage. Alongside activities at professional clubs and leagues, the FARE Action Week will give fans, minority groups and grassroot football teams across the continent the opportunity to come together to channel the power of the game to continue the call for equality. Michael Fanizadeh of the FARE coordination centre in Vienna said earlier: “The FARE Action Week has grown from a group of concerned individuals and organisations coming together to raise awareness of racism in the game to the largest series of activities against racism in sport. “Anti- racism campaign is gathering greater momentum each season with more partnerships being made during the Action Week for ongoing campaigning throughout the season. “The anti- racism message used to be confined to outside the stadiums. Now we are inside the stadiums and our voices are beginning to be heard.” A highlight of last season's Action Week was the strong involvement of national associations, clubs and NGOs in eastern and central Europe. In England and Wales, all 92 professional football clubs took part in a concerted effort to kick racism out of football alongside 600 community events. This year for the first time activities will take place in the Ukraine and Belarus, and in Scotland all 42 professional clubs will hold anti- racism days.
